SHINGOKAN

Shingokan Karate is one of Austalia’s leading karate schools specialising in both traditional and sports karate.  We are a community oriented club with a strong emphasis on the traditional teachings and philosophies to suit today’s world.  We are not only about teaching self-defence skills but teaching skills for life.

Shingokan is directly affiliated with Karate SA and the Australian Karate Federation (AKF). A school premises and instructor inspection has been carried out the by AKF to ensure we meet a high level of tuition and organisational standard.  Sensei Matt’s coaching qualifications and experience are nationally and internationally recognised.

The AKF affiliation allows Shingokan members to represent karate in the sporting arena at the highest level.  Tournaments are held in each state in order to select athletes to represent South Australia and Australia in both Kata (forms) and Kumite (sparring) events.  The AKF is under the direction of the Olympic Committee with the future objective of becoming an Olympic Sport.

Shingokan Karate School is proud to be able to offer karate for kids in Adelaide, taught in a meaningful and respectful way.  We nurture our Little Ninjas and instill in them Life Skills that will enable them to become confident in any role that they might undertake.

Is Karate suitable for everyone?

At Shingokan we have groups to cater for all ages and skill levels.  Students from 4 years can enjoy all the excitement and challenge of learning to defend themselves or mastering an international sport.

Half of our members are female including female instructors.  We recommend women train with men in our regular classes to get maximum combat benefit.

We have specialised children’s classes twice a week for each skill level, where your children will be taught all the physical aspects and discipline of karate in a safe environment by qualified instructors.

Karate Programs

LITTLE NINJAS

AGE GROUP: 4 – 7 Years Old

CLASS DURATION: 30 Minutes

The main aim with the Little Ninjas class is to introduce children to karate in a fun yet structured program.
The focus of the program is on developing motor skills, confidence and discipline while learning basic karate techniques.
Children in this age group are very receptive but do have short attention spans, so the lessons are divided into short bursts of skill or game orientated activity.

YOUNG SAMURAIS

AGE GROUP: 8 – 11 Years Old

CLASS DURATION: 45 Minutes

Young Samurais beginner class is similar to the Little Ninja class in that there is still a focus on developing their karate skills in a fun environment through karate related games and karate technique, is the next step up.
Techniques learnt in the Junior Class are progressively more difficult than the Little Ninjas class but are part of the Beginner/Novice teaching criteria.
Once Young Samurais have completed the beginner phase successfully they move up to the intermediate Samurai class.

NINJA INTERMEDIATE

CLASS DURATION: 45 mins

This class is designed to take the Beginner/Novice to the next level of proficiency.

ADULT BEGINNERS

CLASS DURATION: 45 Minutes

Rather than sit back and watch your child train, we offer the opportunity for parents to get the benefits of karate too.
This class is a fun way to learn self-defence incorporating age specific drills and stretching.
This is a great way to increase fitness and stamina as well as learn new skills.

ADVANCED JUNIORS & SENIORS

AGE GROUP: 12 Years and up

CLASS DURATION: 60 Minutes

Advanced Junior and Senior classes are specifically designed to cater for beginners and advanced students aged 12 years and above.
Whether you are interested in fitness, self-defense, sports karate or wanting to learn a traditional Japanese Martial Art, we will help you set and achieve these goals (and more!).
We not only offer the chance to train in a respected martial art but also to compete in competitions.
Shingokan insists you train with only the best and over the years our dojo has produced many champions, from State to National and International champions.
The senior class is the highest level of expertise that the student can reach.
Classes consist of reaching a deeper understanding of all aspects of karate, including physical movement, spiritual fulfillment and mental awareness.
